QUPDI and TU Braunschweig foster collaboration

15.03.2020 | The Qingdao Urban Planning and Design Research Institute (QUPDI) and EAST-Cities Research Group fostered their on-going collaboration. QUPDI’s president Mr. Song Jun, Dietmar Smyrek (Full-time Vice President of TU Braunschweig) and Prof. Dr. Vanessa Miriam Carlow (Chairperson of the Core Research Area Future City, Technische Universität Braunschweig) signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

Qingdao Urban Planning and Design Research Institute is responsible for the Urban Planning in the entire Qingdao region as well as providing data and analysis to better understand the built environment of Qingdao. QUPDI has extensive knowledge on the future of planning in Qingdao and is currently working on the 2030 Master plan for Qingdao. We look forward to a continued partnership and exchange of knowledge and are excited to work together on creating a sustainable future for Qingdao.

The signing ceremony in Qingdao, originally planned for February in the presence of representatives of the city of Qingdao, Vice President of Tongji University Prof. Dr. Wu, a representative of the German Embassy in Beijing and others, unfortunately had to be cancelled due to the Corona Pandemic. A digital communication infrastructure established within the framework of the project made it possible to sign the contract together even over distance. We look hopefully to the future to reaffirm the signing in a face-to-face meeting during a signing ceremony in Qingdao later this year.
